How did you hear about the SCRC and when did you join?
I heard about the SCRC club while taking the MSF course and joined the Memphis Chapter in 2007.
How long have you been riding?
Began ~30 years ago off and on, but more recently the past 6 years consistently.
Have you ever taken a motorcycle safety course?
Yes, Memphis TN in 2006 and a refresher at No VA CC in 2011.
What was your first bike?
Honda 50cc Scooter if this really counts :)
How many bikes have you owned?
Why do you ride?
I enjoy the way riding makes me feel, the smells and how everyone looks as you pass by especially in a group. It is very relaxing and allows me to enjoy the outdoors and forget about the stress.
Have you ridden with an organized group before?
What modifications have you done to your bike?
Memphis Fats windshield and lowers
b) Lindby Engine Guard
c) Driver and passenger backrest
d) Removable locking saddle bags
e) Jet kit
What accessories do you want to add to your bike?
None, ready for an upgrade!
What is your dream bike?
Hard to say, but I would like to have a nice big cruiser for long road trips and something lean and mean looking for bike night.
What kind of riding do you like to do — straight-aways or twisties?
Mostly straights, but getting into the twisties.
If you have a nickname, how did you get it? Tell the truth!
Ironically my member number assigned back in the Memphis Chapter had 007 in it. The First Officer at the time made a comment that a lot of members would like to have it. So, I played off his comment and 007BikerGirl came out of it.
What is your favorite riding route?
I am still new to the area and honestly have not selected one single route. I enjoy getting out of the city in any direction asap!
Do you ride your bike to work?
Some if I have a relaxed, casual day in the calendar.
What is the fastest you’ve ridden?
~75 (I know slow poke!!)
What is your favorite time of year to ride?
Spring and fall, but can take the summer heat sometimes.
Have you ever been down? If so, how were you hurt and what did you learn from the incident?
I have dropped a bike twice but only my pride hurt and yes the first time was quite scary. Around the late 90s I was on a friend's Suzuki C90 in a parking lot and rode fine at a low speed until I tried to turn. After getting too scared to lean into the tern, I attempted to stop then over I went (yes, you have to put at least one foot down!) The second and most embarrassing was in '07 turning into a parking spot at the Natchez Trace Visitor Center in Tupelo MS, I used the front brake to stop and over I went. Of course there had to be other bikers there…geeze!
Lessons learned: As long as the bike is moving straight it is extremely forgiving and I was able to pick up the VStar by myself using techniques learned in the safety course.
Have you ever done an "Iron Butt" ride?
Not in the sense you mean, but I now see the benefit to those sheep skin seat covers or gel seats the older I get and longer I ride.
If not, what is the furthest you’ve ridden?
~300 miles in one day.
What was the worst weather in which you’ve ridden?
Blowing hard rain during and after my latest MSF refresher course. We certainly earned our certification last year in August…it went from a decent 80 degrees in the early morning to a sweltering 110 degrees at lunch, then the bottom fell out. It is not fun when your rain gear cannot even keep you remotely dry.
Do you know how to work on your bike?
Some minor tasks, but I let the professionals do the more challenging part.
What is your favorite road song?
Rocketman by Elton John.
What was your most adventurous ride?
My first ride on Skyline Drive and the "kiss your butt" turn.
What rallies or events do you like to attend?
Open to all types if my schedule will allow.
Is there someone who rides "two-up" with you?
No, I have never ridden anyone except my water cooler :)
Off the cuff from...007BikerGirl
I'm looking for to a great riding season with the group and really enjoy the camaraderie the club has.
